2006 430======MPBN TV Auction==MPBN Great TV Auction==5:30pm==12:==MPBN -Lewiston, Me====lgiddinge@porthouse.org==The Maine Public Broadcasting Network (MPBN) Great TV Auction needs YOUR help-
The MPBN is celebrating 35 years of providing quality programming this year and the Great TV Auction provides much of the funds required to provide these services.
Did you know the MPBN received the PBS Award for Excellence at the national development conference in San Diego last fall? The funds raised last year helped make public broadcasting available to residents throughout Maine, parts of New Hampshire and eastern Canada. MPBN is one of Maine's principal cultural and educational institutions and YOU are one very important reason for its success.
How can you help? The MPBN and Great TV Auction needs a variety of volunteers to assist at the auction. No experience is necessary -only a desire to help a most worth-while endeavor.
They need us on either: Sun 4/23, Mon 4/24, Tue 4/25, or Sun 4/30. Sunday shifts run from 5:30pm to midnight; Monday and Tuesday shifts run from 7:15pm to midnight. I would prefer Sunday, April 23rd, but am open to any suggestions.
The MPBN hopes all parrot-heads work at the same time. The MPBN was very impressed last year at "how colorful" we are as a group -they thought we had great 'stage presence.'
Available Jobs:
Behind the scenes-
Confirming order/pricing
In-Studio-
Phone operator
Computer operators for electronic boards
Runners
They can 'use' all the manpower we can provide on the above dates.
As always, the volunteers will be provided with opportunities for plenty of fun, friendship and food -which is always a big hit with EVERY Parrott Head I know!!

Parrot Heads (and Parakeets) are needed to help get the camp facilities and grounds ready for campers. Although we may be helping with a number of other projects that day, the Club has specifically agreed to take on the task of repairing/relocating the bocce ball court. Special Olympics says this will be a huge help because "campers truly love playing bocce each and every summer."
Other tasks volunteers will be working on are:
1. Clean seasonal kitchen and bathrooms
2. Clean both cottages - wash floors, etc.
3. Clean both seasonal cottages
4. Painting
5. Relocating bocce court
6. Clean Arts & Crafts and Rec. Hall buildings

2006 819======SO Toll Booth==Special Olympic Toll Booth==4:00pm==10:00pm==Old Orchard Beach====theweatherishere_jb@yahoo.com==We are looking for volunteers to collect voluntary donations "tolls" for Special Olympics. There are signs to let motorist know that we are ahead and we stand in the street collecting tolls. It is a fun and easy event and a great opportunity to people watch.
It is also for a great cause and people are very generous. Special Olympics will be running the event, we provide the toll takers.
Starting Friday night at 6:00 PM, Special Olympics operates toll booths on both East and West Grand Avenues. Volunteers stand on both of these streets with containers where passing motorists may donate their change to SO.
We operate with two-man teams, who are asked to donate a two-hour shift. Volunteers do not ask for money – they just hold the containers where donations may be made and thank those who contribute. We have been asked to cover Saturday Aug 19th Shifts - 4-6, 6-8 and 8-10 pm
You may wear whatever you wish – Parrothead gear would certainly be appropriate! The more fun the volunteers generate, the greater the donations! It’s a great opportunity to do nutty things or dress in attention getting attire.
If you think you could get a crew of two to man one booth on any of the following shifts, please let Johannah by contacting her by phone 415-3823 or email her at theweatherishere_jb@yahoo.com
2006 922======Feeding Frenzy==2006 Fall Feeding Frenzy============Mark your calendars!!
Fall Feeding Frenzy 2006
September 22nd-24th
I think this is the earliest we have ever been at camp, let's hope the weather works in our favor!
Location: Special Olympics Camp Tall Pines, Poland Spring
We'll be at the Special Olympics facilities from Friday evening through
Sunday afternoon, but plan to join us for whatever part of the weekend
works for you. I suspect that we'll once again fill the 2 heated cabins
to the bursting point, so you must rsvp so we can get a proper head count and the sooner the better.
Cost: $10/adult and $5/parakeet for the weekend (one night or two);
Day-campers $5 per day
All proceeds to benefit Special Olympics.
As in years past, Parrot Heads and Parakeets can plan to enjoy a variety
of indoor and outdoor activities. Outdoors provides a warm campfire in the evening and the lake for boating as well as a beach if we get an Indian summer day. If you have a canoe or Kayak this is a great lake to explore. Indoors, the heated cabins provide a comfortable place to visit, listen to music, watch movies, play games, take part in the PS2 Dance contest(If you dare), play a little poker(Let's see who wins this year) or just kick back and relax on the deck.
As some of you may know the PHC of Maine rebuilt the Bocce Ball court at Camp Tall Pines last spring. This was due to us using the court during the last Fall Feeding Frenzy and noticing that it was badly in need of repair. Now that the court is in fine shape we want to chalenge YOU! The first Annual Bocce Ball Tounament (no experience needed to play) will be held this weekend, more information to follow.
In true Feeding Frenzy style, this will be a pot-luck event.
A foodlist will be circulated once we have names.
Please contact Donna Lorrain for more information.

Jeff Vrabel, Bluffton, S.C.
Perennial Parrothead Jimmy Buffett will release his 32nd record, "Take the Weather With You," Oct. 10 on RCA Records.
The title hails from Buffett's cover of "Weather With You," a hit for Crowded House in 1991. First single "Bama Breeze" was serviced to country radio in late August. The video, which concerns the effects of Hurricane Ivan on the Gulf Coast area where Buffett spent his youth, was partially shot at the FireDog Saloon in Bay St. Louis, Miss., a bar that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
The album reporetedly features guest spots from Mark Knopfler (who penned "Whoop De Doo"), Gomez, Little Feat's Bill Payne, Sonny Landreth and ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabakuro, who's been a part of Buffett's touring band for the past few years.
Although Buffett is presently off the road, the singer will perform at a Sept. 19 fundraiser for Texas gubernational candidate Kinky Friedman.
Here is the track list for "Take The Weather With You":
"Bama Breeze"
"Party at the End of the World"
"Weather With You"
"Everybody's on the Phone"
"Whoop De Doo"
"Nothin' But a Breeze"
"Cinco De Mayo in Memphis"
"Reggabilly Hill"
"Elvis Presley Blues"
"Hula Girl at Heart"
"Wheel Inside the Wheel"

From PBS.org: A TRIBUTE TO JAMES TAYLOR
With his gentle acoustic sound and insightful lyrics, James Taylor remains one of the most influential and beloved singer-songwriters to emerge from the popular music scene of the 1970s. In a career extending over three decades, Taylor's musical craftsmanship has delighted critics and audiences alike. In recognition of his many achievements in music, as well as his philanthropic efforts, Taylor was honored in February 2006 as "Person of the Year" by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' MusiCares program. The all-star lineup of performers paying tribute to "Sweet Baby James" includes India
Arie, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow, Jerry Douglas, Dr. John, Carole King, Alison Krauss, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, and Keith Urban.
The program premieres on November 29, 2006 (_check local listings_

By Herald staff wire services
Friday, February 16, 2007 - Updated: 11:55 AM EST
Put down those shovels and dig out your flip-flops. It’s time to start thinking about a trip to Margaritaville this summer at Gillette Stadium.
Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band announced two concerts at Gillette Stadium this September.
Buffett will make his Gillette Stadium debut in a Labor Day Weekend concert, on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007 and will return for a second concert the following weekend on Saturday, Sept. 8. For both concerts, the parking lots will open at 3:30 p.m., stadium gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Both days promise to offer the festive sights and sounds that fans can only experience at Buffett concerts. The public sale for tickets to each concert will begin Monday, Feb. 26, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. All tickets will be sold through Ticketmaster. There will be a limit of 10 tickets per order. Orders can be processed online by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or by phone by calling 508.931.2000 or 617.931.2000.
In 2006, Jimmy Buffett scored his second consecutive #1 debut album on the Billboard Country Chart with the release of his studio record Take The Weather With You. Selling over 120,000 copies in its first week, it also debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. It was certified Gold after less than three months.
In April, the long-awaited Texas Stadium CD will be released. Recorded in 2004, the one-of-a-kind concert featured Jimmy Buffett, Alan Jackson and George Strait performing in front of a sold-out audience.
Gillette Stadium is the premier stadium concert venue in New England and is home to the three-time Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots [team stats] as well as the three-time conference champion New England Revolution. Since Gillette Stadium opened in 2002, it has hosted many of New Englands largest concerts.

2007 8 4======camping==camping w/club finz======Tamworth, NH======Here's the scoop.... below is the note I sent to our club. When your members call, tell them to ask for sites close to ours. If there are any left in our block, you can reserve those too.
Here's the agenda
Friday - Parrothead Camp Crawl. We gather in lynch mob fashion, and go to each other's campsite where the host camper will have a prepared beverage. Its a pub crawl of sorts... (Bring a fold chair)
Sat - The Annual Ragatta! We create our own ships to ride the shallow river. (Not for human passengers) so, to give you an idea, we've floated shot skis, decked out intertubes, coolers... We place our crafts into the river at the same spot and follow them down the river... Winner gets a prize ! Just think, what will float the fastest, have little drag. Wind can be harnessed.... Direction can't be promised. Vince had this to say .... "commissioning the first CLUB FINZ Royal Navy to protect the 3rd annual Club Finz Regatta. Last year we were attacked by the Pirates of Tamworth. Headed by those despicable pirates Captain Flamingo and Captain Jerunamuck. I believe that we need this commission of the Royal Fleet and I should be the Admiral"
Sat - Dinner.. Pot Luck... We eat like kings. Each couple brings a dish to share to a designated area, and we feast! Last year, we had enough food for 50 people!!
Sat Night - DJ Vince spins tunes at the pavilion..... There is an open air pavilion and Vince sets up shop. This is open to the entire camp ground... he's getting quite the following there,,,,
There is power and running water on each site. The river is great for floating and cooling off. Its only a few feet deep. Pets are welcome!!!
Can't wait to see you all there!
